Bioplastic packaging provides an environmentally friendly alternative when you want to package your products responsibly and sustainably.
Unlike traditional plastics, which are made from petroleum, bioplastics are made from natural materials. They can be produced from agricultural waste, vegetable oils, or corn starch, among others.
The biobased plastic we offer has the advantage of having a smaller ecological footprint than fossil-based plastics. This is because less CO2 is emitted during the production process. Additionally, biobased plastic is biodegradable. During composting or incineration, no toxic substances are released that burden the environment.
What is biodegradable? Biodegradable means that a material can be broken down by microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and enzymes, into natural substances such as water, carbon dioxide, and compost. When a material is biodegradable, it means that it can ultimately be fully broken down in the natural environment, causing no lasting harm to the environment. This is especially important for products that are discarded after use, such as packaging, disposable items, and food residues. Please note, at the moment there is no standard for when something is biodegradable.
What is compostable? Compostable materials, like biodegradable materials, are broken down by microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and enzymes, into natural substances such as water, carbon dioxide, and compost. But unlike biodegradable packaging, compostable packaging has standards and certifications. The EN 13432 standard that the packaging must meet indicates how quickly and under what conditions the packaging composts and leaves no harmful substances behind.

A packaging is compostable if it meets the European composting standard EN-13432, where at least 90% of the product breaks down within 12 weeks into particles less than 2 mm and within 6 months the product breaks down into organic substances (CO² and minerals).

The compostable and biodegradable plastic is suitable for both food and non-food items such as tablets, soap bars, pills, superfoods, powders, wet wipes, granola, muesli, nuts, coffee, or tea. Even freshly roasted coffee beans can be packaged in bioplastic packaging. When you choose this option, we provide the packaging with a Wipf valve. This valve is made from compostable materials and certified according to the European standard EN 13432. For resealable stand-up pouches, we use zippers made of compostable materials.
Bioplastics packaging is flexible, and some have a breathable effect. Therefore, bioplastic is not suitable for every product. We advise against packaging liquid products in it.
